Tesla reveals 2026 Model Y Standard — budget-friendly EV with compromises

Tesla has introduced a new entry variant of the Model Y, called the “Standard” trim, aiming to reduce the cost of its mid-sized SUV by cutting select features. Though no right-hand drive announcement has been made yet, British buyers will be watching closely.

Which features are removed or simplified?

To reduce price, Tesla has pared back several amenities in the Standard trim. Notable changes include:

• Basic 18″ wheels by default (19″ optional)
• Restricted paint options: grey, black, white only
• Part textile/vegan leather seat covers replacing full premium materials
• No rear touchscreen, fewer speakers, restrained ambient lighting

Performance and range: what’s still good?

Tesla states that the Standard Model Y will deliver about 321 miles (≈ 516 km) range on 18″ wheels, or 303 miles (≈ 488 km) on 19″s. Acceleration is slower — around 6.8 seconds 0–60 mph. The weight reductions from removed features help to keep performance reasonable.

Will it reach the UK?

As of now, Tesla has not confirmed a right-hand drive version or a UK release. Many expect the Standard trim to initially target left-hand drive markets, delaying any UK arrival. Still, the announcement may influence resale values of existing Model Ys in the UK.
